The spokesperson and scientific head of the research network bayresq.net, Prof. Dr. Horst Domdey, has received the extraordinary award „Pro meritis scientiae et litterarum“. This honorary title is awarded year-by-year to a selected number of outstanding individuals for their merits in the areas of science and the arts. State minister Bernd Sibler, who handed over the award, characterized Prof. Dr. Horst Domdey with the following words: “You have a special eye for successful innovative business foundations based on science” and called Prof. Domdey a “crosslinking person in the area of life sciences in Bavaria”. A prominent example and renown flagship for Munich, Bavaria and Germany in biotechnology is the Martinsried campus. “You coordinate research projects focusing on socially highly relevant topics. The Free State of Bavaria treasures your valuable work, for example as an active member in the Bavarian Genome Research Network or currently for our new research network on multiresistant pathogens.”

In addition to Prof. Horst Domdey, Prof. Dr. Andrea Szczesny, a professor of business administration of the  Julius-Maximilians-University (JMU) in Würzburg, was honored with this high distinction. Prof. Andrea Szczesny received the award for her commitment and dedication towards women in science and for her successful system accreditation of the JMU Würzburg, as well as her internationally sought-after expertise which has set pioneering impulses.
